the challenge of becoming the "servant leader": smile time

the birth of a blog

There is a story to how this blog came to be (well, it's a homework assignment), but more importantly is the story of how the blog earned it's name. There are two parts to this tale:

1. I decided to take this class to become a more effective leader, become involved at BYU, and learn how to improve myself. Hence, my reflections and posts will (hopefully) show my development in various leadership skills.

2. This quote was shared on the first lecture day:

"The first responsibility of a leader is to define reality. The last is to say thank you. In between, the leader is a servant." Max De Pree

I found that statement to be extremely powerful. Being a leader isn't about yourself; it's all about enabling and helping others to become better.

And so the blog is born.
